interview

“After ‘DIOnavi. Full Arch’, I am happiest when I see a smiling patient”

“When you look at the face and mouth of a patient who visits the dentist, you can guess what kind of life this person has lived. Then, it seems that I can sympathize with the patient and his life, and furthermore, I feel respect. Society's definition of success doesn't matter, at least not in the dental office. I learned respect for people while meeting patients as a dentist, and I just do my best for each and every patient.”
During the interview, the story of Hyun-su Park, director of Seoul Leaders Dental Clinic in Bundang, who carefully answered the question about his philosophy of treatment as a dentist, lingered in my mind for a while.

Perhaps, in the words of Dr. Park, there is an answer to the question, “What is the profession of a dentist?” Any dentist would agree with Dr. Park's words, but recently, seeing advertisements that seduce patients both online and offline, they see 'patients' as 'objects that I should treat with sincerity' or 'objects to increase sales'. It can be said that the meeting with him was a good meeting that convinced me that most doctors have a clear view of the profession, as it is often bittersweet for patients to see.
Dr. Park was confident in ‘DIOnavi. Full Arch’, and emphasized that at least implant problems, such as dental treatment and procedures through digital conversion, have changed due to ‘DIOnavi. Full Arch’.
Seoul Leaders Dental Clinic is adjacent to Migeum Station in Bundang and opened in 2018, and is celebrating its 5th year of opening this year. Dr. Hyun-su Park said, “As you can see, the location is close to the station and has a pretty good neck, so patients come not only from Bundang, but also from other regions such as Dongtan, Cheonan, Pyeongtaek, Yeoju, Icheon, and Wonju. This year, we entered our 5th year of opening, and now that COVID-19 is also calming down, we believe that the dental office is now entering a stable period of operation.”
“We did not introduce digital immediately after opening. It was introduced in the middle of the analog treatment. Currently, we operate an in-hospital laboratory and introduce and operate digital devices including intraoral scanners. The introduction of ‘DIOnavi. Full Arch’ was one of those changes.”
“For edentulous patients or those who need to have some remaining teeth extracted and implanted, the true value of ‘DIOnavi. Full Arch’ shines through. From the patient’s point of view, the overall implant procedure is less burdensome, so they prefer it, and they are satisfied with a light meal by installing temporary teeth on the day after surgery,” he said.
In addition, Dr. Hyun-su Park said, “Patients feel very burdened with the entire implant surgery because there is no alternative other than dentures. Or, now, implant dentures or overdentures are used by placing 2 to 4 implants in the mandible and 4 implants in the maxilla. Implant dentures are also a type of dentures after all, so the satisfaction that patients feel is not that great. For that reason, after thinking about it for a while, I decided to adopt the ‘DIOnavi. Full Arch’ system, which can be digitally designed from design to temporary teeth. It was the right decision to cover patients who have the burden of implant placement,” he said, expressing satisfaction with the choice of ‘DIOnavi. Full Arch’.
“’DIOnavi. Full Arch’ is performed as a navigation surgery through so-called computer analysis from diagnosis to surgery. This significantly reduces the burden felt by patients and medical staff. Also, the chair time is greatly reduced. And now, since the surgery is already planned, temporary teeth are prepared in advance according to it, and then, as soon as the surgery is performed, the temporary teeth are inserted immediately, so patients are very satisfied. Everyone says that patients are very surprised when the teeth come in right after surgery.”
“If you are a practitioner, there is bound to be concern about errors. However, this does not mean that there are no errors in ‘DIOnavi. Full Arch’. But I think it's more accurate than any other system. In the case of me, since I am a surgeon, I see problems with errors when performing navigation surgery, so there was a moment when I was hesitant to introduce the navigation surgery itself. There was a part where I chose ‘DIOnavi. Full Arch’ with the mindset of ‘Did digital technology really improve?’, but when I first introduced it and applied it to the patient, I was able to get a satisfactory effect. The implant failure rate has also decreased significantly more than expected.”
Dr. Hyun-su Park, who stated that the business environment, such as dental sales, also had an impact after the introduction of ‘DIOnavi. Full Arch’, said, “Patients sometimes feel burdened by the entire implant itself, and some people are afraid of the surgery itself. There are many cases where these patients come after recognizing ‘DIOnavi. Full Arch’. From the dental standpoint, it is true that the digital edentulous implant system ‘DIOnavi. Full Arch’ responds very well, so it is also helpful for dental operations.”
Dr. Park added, “It seems that I have a deeper view of the world while treating and treating patients who visit the dentist. We look at the patient's dental condition and think about the patient's life and circumstances. I am learning more about the world through patients in a limited space.”
